Poking For Dinner

Image 1: Emu Sneaking by S.T. Gill.

SEE

1. Aboriginal Natives (Wadawurrung people)

2. Emus

3. Pebbles

4. Shrubs/ bushes/ trees

5. Spear (olden day tree)

6. Valleys (small mountains)

7. Animal fur (used as clothing)

8. Dried grass

THINK

I think this image represents life for the Aboriginals in the 1800s. Dressed in basic animal skins for body coverings, I felt the natives looked quite aggressive. They hunted a high population of emus and possibly kangaroos for food. The bushland seemed to have a lot of stubby grass and was probably very hot and dry. Perhaps the Wadawurrung people taught the miners how to hunt?

WONDER

  • Why do the natives look so aggressive/angry?
  • Why is there only two emus?
  • What type of animal skin is the native wearing?
  • Why is everything so dry?

My reading reflection

Hi bloggers and commenters! It’s Kenzie here and I’m here to tell you about my book reflection! Let’s get started!

The first question is, what type of genre do you like to read- and why. Well, that question is quite

hard for me (haha 😂) but I enjoy novels and comics. The reason why I like those type of stories is because I love, love, LOVE, all the wacky drama in novels and comics. Our class is reading a novel called  Out of my Mind. Melody is really curious (Melody is the main character) and the

bullies (Claire and Molly)  that are mean to her because Melody has a disease.

The second question is, provide a suggested book and explain why people should read it. In my opinion, I think everyone should read The Secret Garden. (If you have read it comment down below.) I love the secret garden because I think it is such a heartfelt classic. It’s abouta spoiled girl who moves to a place called Misselthwaite Manor and from a small garden, her spoiled attitude changes to imagination!

The third question is… What book chat book are you reading? Give a short summary of what the book is about. Right now, my book chat book is a novel called Figgy in the world. What I’ve read so far is about a girl called Figgy and her grandmother is sick, so she starts planning to go to America, where her Grandma Ama can seek treatment. I enjoy the book because I think it’s really sweet that Figgy wants to save up money to go to America so Grandma Ama can get proper treatment

See you soon in my next blog post! Kenzie

P.S- have you read any of these books that I’ve mentioned?

Year 5DF

Hello again it’s Mckenzie back on my bloggggggg! It’s so fun in year 5! We’ve done so many things, and I also can’t wait to go on camp on Tunalook and Sovereign Hill! (Comment if you’ve heard of Tunalook or Sovereign Hill!) Our teacher is called Mrs.De forest and she’s AMAZING 😉

Hope everyone has a great 👍 year!

Kenzie 😇

2020 Year 4 students ( this is for you)

Dear 2020 Year 4Ds,

I hope you have a top-quality time in 4D next year. I promise you, from the bottom of my heart, that it has been the best experience I have ever had. Before, I missed my Year 3 teacher, but now I realise that she is not my fave teacher. It’s Mrs D! She is the best teacher in the world, probably the universe! (But watch out on Friday she shoots naughty people 😱 )

Here is a thing you should know about her.

Firstly, she is so friendly and likes to make people laugh, but the 1 thing you should know about  her is… she wants EVERYBODY TO BE HAPPY!!!!!!!!!! I mean, when sometimes I am sad, or someone got in a fight, the amazing Mrs D saves the day by making them laugh and sorting out everything so that everyone can be friends!!! 😇

Secondly, in 4D, we HAVE to do LOTS of community services. We visit Trinity Manor, Btw, if you didn’t know, it is actually a nursing home. But, the people who are there are actually really nice! They chat about lots of things, and some of the old people have grandchildren and actual kids of their own! Also, the staff are really nice too. They serve us fruit, and take care of everyone who’s there.

Thirdly, which is my fave, CAMP! It is so good! The food there was SO GOOD, and we also watched a movie and had dessert!! We also get partners with our dorm. Lucky for me, I got all my friends. Well not all, but most of them. My friends that were in my cabin were my friends (you might not know them) Cameron, Beth, Ava, and one other person Charlotte.

Lastly, it is my favourite math thing to do, ESSENTIAL ASSESSMENT!! I think it’s so good! Do you have it in grade 3? Well, you also can get 100 percents, Like me! I got 6 100 percents!

So, Year 3s, if you thought that grade 3 was the best, you are about to experience 1,000 percent better than grade 3!!

See ya! Kenzie (now going into grade 5 ): sad) 😝

My favourite game of the year

Hi everyone!

Today I am showing you my favourite game. There is loads of games but my fave was maths war! Hope you enjoy it!

Ps. You can play this at home too. Instructions are at the bottom

  1. Even Stevens
  2. Maths War
  3. Battleship
  4. Pass it on
  5. Decimat
  6. Yahtzee

How to play Maths War

  1. Shuffle the cards and sort them.
  2. Take out all the kings, queens, jacks, and jades.
  3. Share them out with your partner.
  4. Pick a random math strategy, adding, minus, division, multiplication.
  5. Both you and your partner put down a card.
  6. Then, for instance, if you were doing adding and you got a 3, and your partner got a 3, the answer would be 9.
  7. Whoever says the correct answer first gets the partners card ( the one that they put down) and gets to keep their card.
  8. Repeat.
  9. Keep doing it until you don’t have anymore cards.
  10. Count your cards and whoever has the most wins! 🥳

Meet the book characters

Hello everyone!

Me and my class started reading this really interesting book called Front Desk, and I thought it was amazing!

So far, we have read that the main character is a girl called Mia, and she used to be so poor that her family could only afford 1 hamburger to share! But then this man called Mr Yao with his annoying son, Jason, gave them a job at the motel for $150 a day, $5 per customer. It is a lot of money for them, so they accepted. But Mia as the manager, she is not doing very well. She has to give out 2 refunds, and almost made a customer get another refund! And she also starts at her new school, and she realises that maybe she’ll make friends by telling them that she works in a motel, but then bossy Jason comes and she doesn’t make friends because she can’t tell people that she works in a motel, so she lies! It’s a great story to read!

So far, the characters that we’ve met are,
Mia (main character)
Mia’s mum
Mia’s dad
Hank (really nice guy who works there as well)
Hank’s friends (forgot who their names were)
Mr Yao
Mr Yao’s son, Jason

And that’s all the characters that we’ve met!

Bye!
Mckenzie

My Amal hands of what I do inside and outside of school

Hi everyone!

In the weeks of school we have been reading Amal Unbound; it is about a normal girl that turns into a slave. We did a activity where we had two hands and we drew little pictures of the things we did. I did what I do inside of school, and what I do outside of school. Hope you enjoy my drawings!

Judging information books

Hi everyone!

This term, we have been judging the Eve Pownall shortlist information books. We voted the books out of 30 and wrote notes to say a complement and something to work on, and then we had to choose the best book there was in our opinion.

The books were,

Make Believe: MC Esher for kids by MC Esher

Waves by Donna Rawless, Heather Potter, and Mark Jackson

Sorry Day by Coral Vass and Dub Leffer

Bouncing back by Rohan Cleave and Coral Tulloch

The happiness box by Mark Greenwood and Andrew McLean

Our birds by Siena Stubbs!

That’s a lot right?

I think what makes a good book is pictures, because usually when information books don’t have any pictures, it immediately makes the book super BORING! Also, with the pictures, it helps readers understand; it actually makes it really clear! And anyway, who doesn’t like pictures in a book?

I also think that it should be a little bit like a story, because then people that are reading it get more engaged in the story. A bit like the Bouncing back story, which actually does have a story about a bandicoots life.

Lastly, I think you need lots of layout. How do readers be engaged without the front cover with lots of art around it? I mean, art is amazing. Anyone can do art, but it does also have to be with the topic.

It was a hard decision to choose which book I liked, but finally, I chose MC Esher for kids! I loved it because the front cover was amazing, it had these cool hypnotising tests, and I just loved it with all those pictures! But when we found out, it was actually sorry Day  But, Our school’s choice was MC Esher for kids! Yay!

Have you judged a book before?

Bye-Bye, Mckenzie!
